VeryDarkMan Sparks Debate After Drilling Boreholes in Ghana, Nigerians React
Popular Nigerian activist and social media critic, VeryDarkMan, real name Martins Vincent Otse, has stirred serious controversy online after unveiling two fully completed borehole projects in Dibilli, a remote community in Karaga District, Ghana.
In a video posted to his Instagram, VDM showed the deplorable state of the community’s water source before his NGO intervened—and the major transformation after. He revealed that the boreholes were funded using donations from Nigerians who supported his NGO’s vision.
However, instead of applause, many Nigerians are not smiling. The gesture, though generous, left a sour taste in the mouths of his local supporters. A lot of online users began asking if their contributions were meant to serve communities abroad while many Nigerian towns still suffer from a lack of clean water. One user boldly said, “Make him no use that money wey we contribute for Nigeria go dey do good person for Ghana o.” Others questioned why charity had to begin overseas, with some branding the move as unnecessary clout chasing. Some even dug up the recent news of Don Jazzy donating N100 million to VDM’s NGO, asking if that money was part of what funded the Ghana project.
In the post, VeryDarkMan clarified that he hadn’t known the location of the SOS when the request came in—it was only later that he realized it was a Ghanaian village. Still, he insisted that it was for humanity’s sake. He also assured Nigerians that similar water projects are ongoing within Nigeria, promising to share updates soon. But many were not having it. Reactions poured in, both for and against him. One wrote, “VDM is no longer a Nigerian thing. It’s now global.” Another added, “A man with integrity! They don’t sell it in the market.” Still, a frustrated fan said, “E no go better for am if he try am. Finish Nigeria first before going global.”
The video of the borehole work has since gone viral, showing clean water now flowing for a community that once relied on a dirty stream. Whether praised or dragged, one thing is sure—VeryDarkMan knows how to make headlines, and this time, it’s not just for his usual online battles, but for taking on physical, life-changing projects that touch lives. Still, it’s clear that Nigerians want to see their own villages transformed before accepting global philanthropy from one of their own.
