Woman Seeks Divorce Over Husband’s Violent Attacks
A businesswoman, Woye Ella, has filed for divorce at the FCT Customary Court in Garki, Abuja, accusing her husband of trying to set her on fire.
Ella told the court on Tuesday that her husband, Joseph, overreacts to small issues and turns violent.
She said he had chased her with dangerous objects like a screwdriver and a knife multiple times, making her fear for her life.
“It got to a point where he poured petrol on me, planning to set me on fire. It was my neighbors who saved me that day,” she said.
According to her, Joseph was arrested and detained at a police station for four days before his father came from the village to intervene. She said he couldn’t give a clear reason for his actions.
Ella told the court she had to move out of their home for her safety and is now asking the court to order her husband to leave the house. She claims she bought the land and built the house herself.
Joseph, a tiler, denied all the allegations. The judge, Festus Enomhonse, has adjourned the case to February 24 for hearing.
