Why You Shouldn’t Give Money Cakes or Bouquets on Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is all about love, gifts and sweet surprises and many people go all out to impress their partners with thoughtful presents.

But do you know that gifting money cakes, money flowers, or money bouquets can land you in serious trouble in Nigeria?

According to Abuja-based lawyer, Stan Alieke, he says that giving out these money gifts is actually a crime if caught, you could face at least six months in jail. Surprising, right?

It might seem like a harmless romantic gesture, but using real money for decoration is considered an abuse of the naira.

In Nigeria, defacing or mishandling the naira is against the law. The government sees it as a way of disrespecting the country’s currency.

If you still want to spoil your partner, there are other creative ways to do it without breaking the law. Here are some ideas:

A handwritten love letter that’s personal and meaningful to you.

A framed photo of both of you is like a beautiful memory to keep forever.

A thoughtful experience more like a dinner date, spa session, or even a simple picnic.

A gift card, this way, your partner can buy what they love.

Valentine’s gifts should come from the heart and it shouldn’t be what would land you in legal trouble.

Be mindful of how you express love this season and avoid money cakes, bouquets, or anything that disrespects the naira.
