Priest Warns Against Trusting Dreams in Marriages After Real-Life Case

A Nigerian Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Angelo Chidi Unegbu, has shared a cautionary tale about a marriage that ended due to suspicions fueled by a dream.

Fr. Unegbu posted the story on his Facebook page on January 9, emphasizing the dangers of relying on dreams or prophecies in relationships.

In the post, he detailed how a young husband became convinced that his newly married wife was unfaithful after dreaming that she was carrying a mattress on her head.

Seeking an explanation, he turned to his mother, who interpreted the dream as evidence of infidelity.

This interpretation sparked daily conflicts between the couple, with the husband demanding a confession from his wife, who denied the accusations. Over time, the tension and mistrust led to their divorce.

Fr. Unegbu, who followed the story for over a decade, used it to warn against building relationships on the basis of dreams or revelations.

He explained that such beliefs often create suspicion and undermine trust in marriages.

The priest advised people to choose their partners based on personal judgment and assessment, rather than external prophecies, stressing that all marriages come with challenges.

“If you married yours by your own decision, thank your stars as you walk on the Golgotha of marriage,” he wrote.
